Who I Am

Dr Nir Fireman FRACP

Paediatric Gastroenterologist and Endoscopist

Hello, my name is Dr Nir Fireman. I'm a Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist based in Auckland, and also see patients in Waikato/ Bay of Plenty (Cambridge Specialist Centre).

I see paediatric patients of all ages from newborn, through childhood to the older teen, with a wide variety of digestive issues. I was trained in paediatrics, then further specialised in paediatric gastroenterology in Israel. Following my arrival in New Zealand, I was working as a consultant at Starship Children's hospital. I have been seeing patients in private since 2017. I have been based at the MacMurray Centre Auckland, and at Cambridge Specialist Centre.

Common conditions referred for my assessment include:

Investigations and treatment may include:

  • Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy

  • Video Capsule Endoscopy

  • Lactose and Fructose breath test

  • Oesophageal pH Monitoring

  • Wireless pH Monitoring (BRAVO)

  • Iron infusion

  • Imaging (Ultrasound, x-ray, MRI) referral

  • Dietitian referral

  • Psychologist referral

Specialist interest:

Crohn’s Disease Exclusion Diet (CDED).

During my time as an intern at the Edith Wolfson Medical Centre, a world-renowned public hospital for studies related to clinical trials of the highest standard, I learnt firsthand from Professor Arie Levine and dietitian, Rotem Sigall-Boneh, the originators, developers, and proponents for the now globally accepted Crohn’s Disease Exclusion Diet. CDED’s effectiveness and treatment methods have brought relief to many Crohn’s Disease sufferers. I believe patients following the CDED diet and treatment can eventually achieve as normal a life as possible, a prognosis that was considered unachievable before this revolutionary new eating plan was developed.

Today, my goal is to help parents looking for better, more natural, alternative solutions for children with Crohn’s disease: a practical eating program that will grow and adapt as the child does themselves.

·  I am a certified CDED consultant and ModuLife provider.
